Dickson, Tenn. - Tennessee State University men's golfer Chris Seibel shot an opening round score of 70 (-2) to share the individual lead after day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship being played at the GreyStone Golf Club.
Seibel had two bogeys in the first seven holes of his round, but recovered with four birdies, including birdies on 13, 14 and 16 down the stretch.
Seibel's round of 70 led the Tennessee State attack while Ryan Smith was just three strokes off that pace, carding a round of 73 to tie for ninth after 18 holes.
Murray State University combined to shoot a first round total of 286 (-2) and currently holds an eight-stroke lead over the University of Tennessee at Martin. UT Martin (+6) is second in a group of five teams that are separated by just five strokes. Jacksonville State is third (+7), followed by defending champion Austin Peay (+8), Tennessee Tech (+9), Tennessee State (+10), Eastern Kentucky (+12), Morehead State (+13) and Eastern Illinois (+16).
