Men's golf begins spring season at UT Martin's Grover Page Classic

Nashville, Tenn.--- The Tennessee State University men's golf team tees off the 2010 spring season at the fourth annual Grover Page Classic held at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn.

The Classic will take place from March 1-2 and is hosted by OVC opponent The University of Tennessee at Martin. Practice rounds are slated for Feb. 28.

The Jackson Country Club, a par 72, 6,783-yard course, will host 16 teams, including eight from Tennessee, and eight participants competing as individuals.

The pool of competition includes teams from: Lambuth, Union, Bethel, Big East Conference member Cincinnati, previous champion Central Arkansas, Atlantic Sun contender Lipscomb, Southern Illinois from the Missouri Valley Conference, and Ohio Valley Conference members Tennessee Tech and Morehead State.

The Tigers were scheduled to compete in last year's Classic but the competition was shortened due to inclement weather. 

TSU is led by Chris Seibel and Richard Gill. Seibel finished the fall season with an average of 73.87 and 2-over-par. Gill concluded the season with an average of 75.6 and 4-over-par.

The Classic is named after Grover Page, UT Martin's first golf coach, who led the program to eight NCAA Championship appearances. 

First round action is set to kick-off on Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Tigers will return to the green from March 28-30 at the Alabama A&M Spring Classic in Huntsville, Ala.
