Jackson, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men's golf team shot a final round team score of 302 to finish third at the 16-team Grover Page Classic hosted by UT Martin at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn.
For the first competition of the spring, the Tigers shot 27-over-par from a total of 891 coming from rounds of 292, 297 and the final round of 302.
TSU finishes in the top three for the third time this season while finishing ahead of OVC opponents Tennessee Tech (4), Morehead State (8) and UT Martin (9). The Tigers posted 34 birdies, 155 pars, with two eagles.
Chris Seibel finished fifth in the individual standings shooting two-under for a final score of 214. Seibel opened the first round with an impressive four-under-par (68) and shot par in the second round (72). He concluded the Classic in the final round with a 74 for two-over-par.
In addition, he led the competition shooting 14 birdies making the all-tournament team with his third finish under par for both the fall and spring season.
Several Tigers finished in the top 20 in the individual standings with Richard Gill drawing even with three other golfers for tenth.
Gill shot a final of 224 with eight-over-par on rounds of 74, 76, and 74. Ryan Smith and Cameron Scitern tied two other competitors shooting 227 overall (11-over-par). Smith shot 74, 75, and the final round at 78 with Scitern shooting 76, 74, and 77.
The team will return to action on March 28-30 when they head to Scottsboro, Ala. to compete in the Alabama A&M Golf Classic. The tournament will be held at the Goose Pond Colony Golf Course beginning Sunday (3/28) with practice rounds and will conclude Tuesday (3/30) with the finals.
