Nashville --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team continues the 2010 season when it participates in the 23rd annual Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
The event will be held at the par-72, 6,875-yard Birdwood Golf Course Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. The 36-hole tournament will feature 18 holes of competition each day with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
The 11-team field for this year's tournament includes Appalachian State, Binghamton, George Mason, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Maryland, No. 34 NC State, Seton Hall, Tennessee State and Virginia. NC State's Matt Hill, the 2009 NCAA Champion, will compete for the Wolfpack.
The Tigers are scheduled to begin play Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and will be paired with Binghamton and Individuals.
South Carolina won last year's tournament that was shortened to 18 holes when weather delays prevented the second round from being completed. The Gamecocks shot 286 to better Virginia by six shots. UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock took medalist honors after shooting 67 in the only round that was completed by all teams.
The Tigers are coming off of a fourth place showing at the OVC Championship earlier this week, the best finish in school history.
