Golf Places Sixth at OVC Tournament

Muscle Shoals, Ala. --- The Tennessee State University men’s golf team finished the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament in sixth place.

 

Tennessee State produced its best finish at the OVC Championship since a fifth-place effort at the 2004 Championship. Chris Seibel had a 3-under score of 69 to finish at 221 (+5) for the event, putting him in seventh place. His round of 69 was tied for the lowest on the day and was the third lowest of the championship.

 

Ryan Smith carded a 230 (76-77-77) picking up a 22nd place finish for the Tigers. Richard Gill finished in 31st place with a 234 while Dorian Vauls tallied a 236, good for a 34th place finish. Christ McKay rounded out the TSU scorers with a 248 and a 41st place finish.

 

Austin Peay claimed its seventh Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship, also winning OVC Championships in 1979, 1988, 1989, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The Govs had a final round team total of 287 (-1) while Murray State had a final round 293. Host Jacksonville State and defending champion Eastern Kentucky tied for third. The field was rounded out by Morehead State, Tennessee State, Eastern Illinois, UT Martin and Tennessee Tech.

 

In the individual medalist competition, Jacksonville State's Gonzalo Berlin became the fourth Gamecock individual medalist with a 1-stroke victory.
