Golf Seventh at Butler Spring Invitational

Avon, Ind. --- Junior Chris Seibel turned in a strong final round performance and led the Tennessee State men’s golf team to a seventh place finish at the Butler Spring Invitational.

 

The 36-hole tournament at Prestwick Country Club concluded on Tuesday, March 24.

Siebel shot a two-over-par 74 on the final day, after carding a 78 in the opening round. His two-day total of 152 was good for seventh place in the individuals standings, five strokes shy of third place and seven strokes shy of first place.

Adam Austreng of Green Bay captured medalist honors in a playoff with Michael Lower of Youngstown State.

Sophomore Richard Gill finished second for the Tigers and tied for 21st overall with a 36-hole score of 156 (82-74). Junior Ryan Smith tied for 35th with a 159 (78-81), while freshman Dorian Vauls tied for 46th with a 164 (78-86). Freshman Chris McKay rounded out TSU’s scoring with a 177 (96-81) and a 55th place finish.

As a team, Tennessee State shot 626 (316-310) for a seventh place finish. IUPUI won the team title with a final score of 605.

The Tigers will next host the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate. The tournament will begin April 5 at the Hermitage Golf Course.
