TIGER GOLFERS OPEN PLAY IN OVC CHAMPIONSHIPS

DECATUR, Ala. --- Tennessee State shot an opening round 310 to stand in 10th place after the opening round of the 2005 O'Reilly Ohio Valley Men's Golf Championship. A total of 17 shots separate first round leader and host Samford from 11th place Eastern Illinois. Samford is the designated host school for the event which was moved from Paducah, Ky. And is being held on the par-72, Burningtree Golf Course. Phillip Watkins led TSU on the opening day with scores of 37 and 34 for a 71 to be in a tie for sixth place. Robert Dinwiddie, who led the OVC in stroke average this year, had a two-over 74 to be in a tie for 21st place. Stu Michaels and Jordan Roberts each shot opening round scores of 79 while freshman Lawrence Larson posted an 82. Austin Peay is second with a 290 while Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri all shot 291. Tennessee State is sixth (292), followed by Morehead State (295), Jacksonville State (298), Tennessee-Martin (299), TSU (303), and Eastern Illinois (304). Second round play will begin Tuesday morning.
