TIGERS FINISH SECOND IN NATIONALGOLF MINORITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. --- Tennessee State finished second place in the 2004 National Minority Golf Championships that concluded Sunday afternoon at the PGA Golf Club (North Course. The Tigers had entered the final round of the 54-hole tournament in fourth place, one stroke out of third in the Division I category. However, the Tigers came back with final round 286 to finish with an 882, five strokes ahead of last year's Division I champions, Bethune-Cookman. Johnson & Wales University of North Miami Beach, Fla., won the Div. I standings with a team-total of 22-under-par 842. TSU's Robert Dinwiddie shot a final round 7-under-par 65 to finish in second place with a three-day-total of 8-under-par 208. Johnson and Wales' Adam Scrimenti won the Div. I medalist honors by turning in a 6-under-par 66 for a Championship-total of 10-under-par 206. Stu Michaels had the second-best Tiger score with a 226 to finish 14th. Phillip Watkins and Mark Searle each shot a 227 to finish in a 15th-place tie while Jordan Roberts had 242. Matthew Buley, playing as an independent, shot 241. More than 100 contestants from 24 colleges and universities comprised the field for the 18th National Minority College Golf Championship. The National Minority College Golf Championship is co-sponsored by The PGA of America and the National Minority College Golf Scholarship Fund of Cleveland, Ohio.
