Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's cross country teams will travel to Cookeville when they compete in the Tennessee Tech Invitational on Friday, October 1st. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. and will be held at the Southern Hills Golf Course.
The squads will get a crack at the course which is designated for this year's Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship on October 30th. TSU will face a few OVC opponents with the list of teams including: Tennessee Tech, Murray State, UT Martin, and Alabama A&M.
Last season at the TTU Invitational, returners Christopher Hobbs, Kenisha Ladler and Gabrielle Todd posted career times on the course. Hobbs posted a career mark of 30:43.30 with Ladler registering a time of 25:03.14 while Todd followed with a 26:38.61 clocking.
Both teams are coming off top-10 finishes in the Morehouse Invitational last weekend in Atlanta, Ga. The women posted their best finish of the season by placing third overall. The men finished sixth overall in the team standings in their first race of the season.
For the women, out of the top four finishers for the Tigerbelles, three were freshmen: Tiffany Harris, Andreanna Rowe, and Charita Harris. T. Harris came in first for TSU in the team standings and 11th overall. She posted a time of 23:21.99. Rowe earned a 14th place finish with a career time of 23:30.85. C. Harris clocked in with a time of 23:49.28 and placed 16th.
Brittany Washington finished as the second runner with a time 23:23.87 for 12th but has been the Tigerbelles top finisher in 2-of-3 races this season.
The men are led by Hobbs and Phillip Myton with both runners getting off to a strong start on the course in the men's first event of the season last week. Hobbs earned a 15th place finish and clocked in with a time of 32:10.61 while Myton finished 17th with a 32:41.93 time. Jonathan Owens followed with a time of 32:42.22 and an 18th place finish.
TSU cross country will take a week off and will return to action on Saturday, October 16th when they compete in Chattanooga for the second time this season at the Front Runner Classic hosted by UT Chattanooga. The race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be held at the Moccasin Bend Race Course.
