NASHVILLE --- Two trips to the charity stripe lifted the Tennessee State men's basketball team to its second Ohio Valley Conference win, 79-74 over SIU-Edwardsville Saturday afternoon in the Gentry Center.

With 2:29 left in the game and the Tigers down one after leading for 24:32 of the afternoon, freshman point guard Mark Freeman, who had served as the floor general dishing six assists to his team, took control of the ball and drove the lane for a three-point play to take the lead, 70-72. Too close for comfort, Freeman registered his final assist, passing the ball to Jy'lan Washington at the top of the key for a Tennessee State three. SIUE added just four more points, two free-throws and a jumper, falling short of its second OVC victory, 79-74.

Big Blue now leads the conference with a 10-5 overall, 2-0 OVC record.

QUOTES
HEAD COACH BRIAN "PENNY" COLLINS

-Opening statement
Basically, my hairline is going back, my grey hairs are starting to come out and I'm stressing out. I'm losing sleep. The OVC is an amazing conference, the teams in this league are amazing. Every game is a dog fight. Hats off to SIUE for bringing it tonight, we got the win though and to me thats all that really matters. When people come to Nashville now it's not going to be just one tough game, there's now two tough games to play. I am glad we are here and that we're off to a good start.

-On SIUE's Moore and how to guard him
Nothing really, Carlos Marshall just stood up in the locker room and said 'Coach, let me guard him. When I guard him I make him work hard. He hasn't scored on my.' We kept Carlos on him as much as possible, and he did an unbelievable job making him work. He held him to six points in the second half, so good job Carlos.

-On Emmanuel Egbuta's second half
He is a ball of energy. He is the kind of guy that can explode, get a lot of put backs and plays. He is making his free throws now. I have to give credit to Coach Nichols cause we had a decision to make on that sub-in. You know, we have so many guys that can play and he said that Buta was ready and he was right. I really believe in him (Egbuta) and I am just glad he is on our team.
