OPENING TIP:  The Tennessee State men’s basketball team continues Ohio Valley Conference play as it hosts Eastern Kentucky in the Gentry Center, Thursday, Jan. 10 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team fell to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in a nail-biting 69-62 loss Saturday evening in the Gentry Center. Nashville-native Tripp Davis led the Tigers for the fourth time this season scoring 19 points, (11-of-12) from the free throw line and (2-of-6) from three-point distance. Two Tigers, who sat out last season, recorded career-highs, including Dave Morris, a redshirt-freshman guard from Erie, Pennsylvania, with 14 points and DaJion Henderson, a redshirt-junior forward, with seven points. The Gamecocks shot 22-of-28 from the charity stripe, which would turn into game-deciding trips as TSU shot 18-of-20 from the line.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 29-34 in the all-time series against the Gamecocks, 15-15 at home.

TSU split the two meetings with EKU, defeating the Colonels on the road, 73-60 and losing in Gentry Center 59-72. The Tigers were on a seven-game winning streak before the hot shooting of EKU, 53.3 percent (24-of-45) from the floor, cut the streak short on Senior Night. Former Tiger Christian Mekowulu and current starting point guard Armani Chaney scored 12 points apiece for the Tigers on the night. TSU outscored EKU by a 32-22 margin in the paint, and forced 18 turnovers.

NATIONALLY RANKED: The Tigers are ranked top 50 in the nation in one category:

  • 39 in turnovers forced (230 on the season)
    • 26 vs. Carver and at Memphis

UP NEXT: The Tigers ends its four-game stay at home with Morehead State Jan. 12 in the Gentry Center. Tip off set for 7:30 p.m.
