OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team looks to make it seven wins in a row with Thursday’s home Ohio Valley Conference matchup versus Morehead State at the Gentry Center. The game is the second half of a home doubleheader that will begin 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game, which is a 5:30 p.m. start.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU extended its winning streak to six games with a 65-47 road win at Jacksonville State on Saturday Night. TSU earned the season sweep over Jacksonville State after having beaten the defending OVC Tournament champion Gamecocks earlier this season at the Gentry Center. Seniors Delano Spencer and Ken’Darrius Hamilton led TSU with 15 points apiece with Kamar McKnight chipping in with 11 points off the bench. McKnight earned OVC Co-Newcomer of the Week for his efforts versus Belmont and Jacksonville State last week.

RIDE THE WAVE: On TSU’s current six-game winning streak, the Tigers have outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 points per game and have a plus-6.2 rebounding edge. Redshirt junior forward Christian Mekowulu is averaging 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game on the streak. TSU’s record for consecutive wins in its Division I era is 13 set during the 1979-80 season. Since joining the OVC prior to the 1987-88 season, the longest winning streak is nine games set in 1994-95 and matched in 2011-12.

ABOUT MOREHEAD STATE: The Eagles, who are led in scoring by Jordan Walker and his 11.5 points per game, are 6-19 overall and 2-12 in Ohio Valley Conference games. Morehead State has dropped six games in a row entering Thursday.

LAST TIME VERSUS MOREHEAD STATE: Delano Spencer scored a game-high 16 points, including a free throw with 4.2 seconds left, to lead TSU to a 61-58 road win at Morehead State on Feb. 1. TSU trailed by one with just over a minute left until Armani Chaney’s three-pointer with 1:09 to go gave the Tigers a lead they did not relinquish the rest of the way. It was TSU’s first road win in Morehead, Ky. since Feb. 27, 2014.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 33-37 in the all-time series versus Morehead State. The last time TSU went 2-0 versus Morehead State in a season was 2012 when the Tigers won the only regular season matchup before again beating the Eagles in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.  The last time TSU swept the regular season series with Morehead State was 2006.

UP NEXT: TSU hosts Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Gentry Center at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Night.
