OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team has won five games in a row heading into Saturday’s road game at Jacksonville State, which earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. In OVC games this year, TSU leads the league in scoring defense (64.9 ppg) and is second in field goal percentage defense (40.9 percent).

LAST TIME OUT:  TSU made it five wins in a row - beating first-place Belmont, 64-56 on Thursday night at the Gentry Center. Christian Mekowulu led TSU with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth career double-double - sixth this season. The Tigers scored the last nine points of the game and held Belmont scoreless for the final 3:53 of the second half

ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE: The defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Champion Gamecocks are 18-8 overall and 9-4 in the OVC this season. Led by Malcolm Drumwright’s 13.3 points per game, Jacksonville State is coming off an 82-65 win over Tennessee Tech on Thursday.

LAST TIME VERSUS THE GAMECOCKS: Delano Spencer scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to lead TSU to a 67-60 win over Jacksonville State on Jan. 4 at the Gentry Center. TSU forced 16 turnovers and shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the floor on the night. The score was tied at 25-25 at the half before the Tigers outscored the Gamecocks by a 42-35 margin in the second half.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 18-13 in the all-time series versus JSU. Under fourth-year Head Coach Dana Ford, the Tigers are 4-3 in the series.

UP NEXT: The Tigers will return to the Gentry Center to host Morehead State on Thursday, Feb. 15.
