OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team hosts SIUE on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Gentry Center. TSU has won three-consecutive Thursday night games and is 5-4 at home this season. Thursday will mark TSU’s Coaches vs. Cancer game where coaches will wear sneakers during the game to raise awareness for cancer research.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU suffered a 76-57 loss to Murray State at the Gentry Center on Jan. 20. Delano Spencer scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Tigers. Murray State closed the first half on an 18-5 run to take a 38-26 halftime lead. In the second half, TSU cut Murray State’s lead down to six with just under seven minutes to play, but could not complete the comeback.

ABOUT THE COUGARS: SIUE, which has surpassed last year’s win total with 10 games still to be played, is 7-12 on the year and 3-5 in Ohio Valley Conference action. Jalen Henry averages 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for SIUE, which has lost two in a row entering Thursday.  

LAST TIME VERSUS SIUE: In a one-possession game, TSU fell at SIUE by an 82-79 final score on Jan. 13 at the Vadalabene Center in a game with seven ties and 14 lead changes. TSU forced a season-high 24 turnovers but could not overcome the strong shooting of the Cougars who shot 59.6 percent (28-of-47) on the night. It went down to the wire with SIUE making three free throws in the final 21 seconds to seal the win. Two TSU threes were off the mark on the final possession of the game. Christian Mekowulu scored a game-high 24 points for TSU.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Tennessee State is 7-2 in the all-time series versus SIUE. The Tigers are 3-0 in the three meetings with the Cougars at the Gentry Center.
