OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team hosts Murray State at the Gentry Center on Saturday night as part of a basketball doubleheader. The women’s game tips at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game starting shortly after the conclusion of the women’s game.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU topped Austin Peay by a 70-56 final score on Thursday night at the Gentry Center. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor and limited the Govs, which entered the game tied for first place in the OVC, to 30.6 percent shooting. Kamar McKnight led four Tigers in double figures with 13 points. Delano Spencer provided a lift off the bench with 11 second-half points. The score was tied at 28-28 at the half before the Tigers pulled away by outscoring the Govs, 42-28, in the second half.

ABOUT MURRAY STATE: The Racers enter Saturday tied with Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay for second in the OVC standings with a 5-2 conference record. Murray State, coming off a 79-72 loss at Belmont on Jan. 18, features the highest-scoring offense in the league, scoring 80.8 points per game.

LAST SEASON VERSUS THE RACERS: A big second half by Murray State doomed TSU in last season’s 92-83 loss to the Racers at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. The Racers outscored TSU by a 57-40 margin in the final 20 minutes. TSU had five players score in double figures led by Wayne Martin with 19 points and 16 rebounds. The Tigers outrebounded the Racers, 38-34, and shot 46.0 percent from the floor, but could not overcome 16 turnovers on the offensive end.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Tennessee State is 17-52 in the all-time series versus Murray State. TSU had lost five in a row to Murray State before a 73-71 win by the Tigers on Jan. 16, 2016 at the Gentry Center.
