OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team opens a four-game home stand with a Thursday night matchup with Austin Peay at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers, who have forced 20-plus turnovers in their last two games, lead the Ohio Valley Conference in steals (8.0 per game) and turnover margin (+1.76). The men’s game will begin shortly after the conclusion of the women’s game, which will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: TSU is coming off an 82-79 defeat at SIUE on Jan. 13. Christian Mekowulu scored a game-high 24 points with Delano Spencer adding 19 for TSU. SIUE made three free throws in the final 21 seconds and TSU’s two three-point attempts on the final possession were off the mark. TSU forced the Cougars into 24 turnovers on the night.
ABOUT AUSTIN PEAY: Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Matt Figger, APSU is 10-8 overall and 5-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Governors are coming off an 87-67 win at Jacksonville State on Jan. 13.
LAST SEASON VERSUS THE GOVERNORS: TSU defeated the Governors by a 70-66 final score on Feb. 4, 2017 at the Dunn Center in Clarksville. Darreon Reddick scored 19 points and had two free throws with 4.1 seconds left to help seal TSU’s victory. The Tigers, who led by 12 points in the first half, trailed by 11 in the second half before securing the road win.
ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 29-46 in the all-time series versus Austin Peay. The Tigers defeated Austin Peay by a 66-52 final score in the Governors’ last trip to the Gentry Center on Jan. 14, 2016.
