OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team heads to Illinois for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference games beginning with Thursday night’s showdown at Eastern Illinois on CBS Sports Network. After putting up 15.0 points per game in non-conference games, TSU’s leading scorer Delano Spencer has upped his average to 16.5 points per game through four OVC games.

LAST TIME OUT: In the last outing on Jan. 6, TSU fell to Tennessee Tech by an 87-81 margin in overtime at the Gentry Center despite Delano Spencer and Christian Mekowulu scoring 20 points apiece for the Tigers. Tennessee State trailed by 13 points in the second half before forcing overtime. Tennessee Tech outscored TSU by a 14-8 margin in the five-minute overtime period.
ABOUT EASTERN ILLINOIS: The Panthers enter Thursday’s matchup with a 6-9 record including a 2-2 Ohio Valley Conference mark. After dropping its first two OVC games, EIU beat Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky in its last two games.
LAST SEASON VERSUS EASTERN ILLINOIS: EIU handed TSU a 77-67 overtime loss at the Gentry Center in last year’s meeting on Feb. 2, 2017. TSU held a 31-19 halftime lead, but the Panthers outscored the Tigers by a 58-36 margin in the second half and overtime to earn the road win. Wayne Martin scored 16 points to lead the Tigers with Delano Spencer adding 13 points.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Tigers are 27-23 in the all-time series versus EIU. TSU won its last trip to Charleston, Ill. – a 66-61 victory on Jan. 6, 2016.
