OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team concludes a six-game road swing with a New Year’s Eve matchup at Southeast Missouri in Ohio Valley Conference action. TSU’s veterans have boosted the offense with seniors Delano Spencer (14.5 ppg) and Ken’Darrius Hamilton (9.4 ppg) as well as redshirt junior Christian Mekowulu (11.5 ppg) leading the way. TSU ranks third in the OVC in field goal percentage defense (42.5 percent) and scoring defense (67.5 ppg).

LAST TIME OUT: TSU fell to UT Martin by a 63-60 final score in overtime on Thursday night in the OVC opener. Ken’Darrius Hamilton scored a team-high 12 points for TSU, which featured four players in double figures. Kamar McKnight and Darreon Reddick finished with 11 points apiece with Christian Mekowulu adding 10 points and nine boards. TSU led by 12 points in the first half in a game that had nine ties and 12 lead changes. In the five-minute overtime period, UT Martin outscored TSU by a 7-4 margin to pick up the win.

ABOUT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI: Southeast Missouri is 6-8 on the season and is coming off a 94-72 loss to Belmont on Dec. 28. Reigning OVC Freshman of the Year Denzel Mahoney leads the OVC with 18.6 points per game.

LAST SEASON VS. SEMO: The Tigers and Redhawks split last year’s meetings. TSU won in the regular season meeting at the Gentry Center by a 65-62 final score. In the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Municipal Auditorium, SEMO picked up a 78-75 overtime win over the Tigers.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 25-20 in the all-time series versus the Redhawks. Since Head Coach Dana Ford took over prior to the 2014-15 season, TSU is 2-2 against SEMO.

UP NEXT: TSU hosts Jacksonville State on Thursday, Jan. 4, for a basketball doubleheader at the Gentry Center. The women’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
