OPENING TIP: Winners of four of its last five games, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team takes on North Carolina A&T on Friday in non-conference road action. The Tigers, coming off a dominating 64-45 win at Alabama State, are led in scoring by Delano Spencer (15.5 points per game) and Christian Mekowulu (12.5 ppg).
LAST TIME OUT: OVC Player of the Week Christian Mekowulu recorded his third-straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead TSU to a 64-45 road win at Alabama State on Tuesday. TSU held the Hornets to 16 points in the final 20 minutes to pull away down the stretch. It was the second time holding an opponent under 20 points in a half this season. In his first career start, Kamar McKnight tallied 14 points, while Montgomery, Ala. native Ken’Darrius Hamilton scored 10 points in his return to his hometown.
ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA A&T: The Aggies are 5-4 on the year with a win over East Carolina on their resume. North Carolina A&T has dropped three-consecutive games entering Friday. North Carolina A&T Head Coach Jay Joyner worked for the TSU men’s basketball team during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Tennessee State is 10-13 in the all-time series versus North Carolina A&T. Friday will mark the first meeting between the two sides since Dec. 10, 1994.
ROAD WARRIORS: TSU is in the midst of a six-game road swing that began with a win at Alabama State on Dec. 12. The Tigers are 2-1 on the road this season and 20-16 in games away from the Gentry Center over the last three seasons.
