MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Christian Mekowulu recorded his third-consecutive double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tennessee State men’s basketball team to a 64-45 road win at Alabama State on Tuesday night.
TSU (5-3) held a 33-29 halftime edge over Alabama State (0-9) and turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, holding the Hornets to 16 points in the final 20 minutes to pull away down the stretch. It was the second time holding an opponent under 20 points in a half this season.
A fast start by the Hornets gave Alabama State a 12-6 lead seven minutes into the game. TSU battled back and took the lead for good with 8:40 left in the first half.
In his first career start, Kamar McKnight tallied 14 points, while Montgomery, Ala. native Ken’Darrius Hamilton scored 10 points in his return to his hometown.
