TSU Men's Basketball Signs Duling, Johnson During Early Signing Period

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State men’s basketball Head Coach Dana Ford announced the signing of Kenyon Duling (Chicago, Ill.) and Austin Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) to National Letters of Intent.

Both Duling and Johnson, who play for some of the top high school programs in the country, will be freshmen on TSU’s 2018-19 roster.

“We are very excited about the additions of Kenyon Duling and Austin Johnson to our basketball program,” Ford said. “They are both high-character student-athletes that will represent Tennessee State is a first class manner.”

“Kenyon comes from an outstanding basketball program that has a strong tradition of winning," Ford said. "He’s a tremendous competitor that will compete on both ends of the floor. He loves a challenge defensively. Offensively, he makes everyone on the floor better.”

  • A senior guard at Morgan Park High School in Illinois, playing for Head Coach Nick Irvin
  • Helped lead Morgan Park to the 3A State Championship in Illinois as a junior in 2016-17, the program’s third state championship in the last five years under Irvin
  • Morgan Park finished as the runner-up in the City Championship Game for Chicago in 2017
  • Started at Orr Academy High School as a sophomore, posting 15 points per game before transferring to Morgan Park before his junior season
  • Plays AAU for Caron Butler Elite
  • Helped guide team to the Adidas Championship in South Carolina, averaging 20 points, six rebounds and six assists per game during the AAU season
  • Also excels in the classroom as an honor roll student

“Austin plays for a great program at Wheeler and has been exposed to outstanding coaching. He’s a young man who is blessed with exceptional athletic ability and length. He has a tremendous upside, and he will have an outstanding career here at Tennessee State.”

  • Currently a senior at Wheeler High School in Georgia, one of the top high school programs in the country
  • Wheeler High School, which won the state title as recently as 2015, has produced a number of players who have gone on to the NBA including Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Jaylen Brown, JJ Hickson and DeQuan Jones 
  • As a junior, Johnson helped Wheeler go 21-9 and earn a place in the quarterfinals of the 6A GHSA State Tournament
  • Plays on the AAU circuit for Game Elite
  • Averaged 16.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for Game Elite
