NASHVILLE --- Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jordan Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the Tennessee State men's basketball team walked across the stage during Saturday's spring commencement ceremony after completing the requirements to earn bachelor's degrees from the university.
The TSU athletic department celebrated its seniors with a total 41 graduates having their name called as part of Saturday’s ceremony for those graduating in May or with expected summer graduations. Including the winter graduation ceremony, Tennessee State Athletics produced 63 graduates during the 2016-17 academic year.
“I am overwhelmingly proud of all of our graduates and their families,” said Dr. Johnnie Smith, TSU Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services. “Student-athletes continue to prove that earning a college degree is equally important as playing a sport. We are truly grateful for their academic achievement in the classroom and degree completion. My staff, the Athletic Administrators and Coaches salute you on your accomplishment.”
Among TSU’s graduates are Olympic Trials Qualifiers, All-American, All-Conference performers, OVC Individual and Team Champions and 1,000 point scorers.
Radio Personality Tom Joyner served as the Undergraduate Ceremony speaker on Saturday to celebrate this year’s graduates.
