OPENING TIP: TSU begins its second time through the Ohio Valley Conference East Division with a road test at Tennessee Tech on Thursday night. The Tigers, who are coming off a 70-66 road win at Austin Peay, fell to the Golden Eagles by an 80-74 score in overtime earlier this season at the Gentry Center.
ABOUT TENNESSEE TECH: Entering Thursday 10-16 overall and 6-5 in the OVC, the Golden Eagles are coming off a convincing 87-68 road win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Three Tennessee Tech players average double-digit points led by Aleksa Jugovic’s 16.3 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT: Darreon Reddick (Belleville, Ill.) fueled a second-half comeback with a season-high 19 points in a 70-66 road win at Austin Peay on Saturday. TSU led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Govs battled back for an 11-point lead in the second half before TSU pulled out the victory. Ken’Darrius Hamilton (Montgomery, Ala.) recorded his first double-double with 10 points and 11 boards on the night.
LAST TIME VERSUS TENNESSEE TECH: Christian Mekowulu (Lagos, Nigeria) forced overtime with a free throw with 11.6 seconds left, but TSU fell to Tennessee Tech, 80-74, in overtime at the Gentry Center on Jan. 19. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 19 points and Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds for the Tigers. Aleksa Jugovic scored 30 points to lead the Golden Eagles.
ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU’s all-time record versus Tennessee Tech is 31-32 with Thursday marking the 64th meeting between the two sides.
