OPENING TIP: Tennessee State heads to Clarksville, Tenn. for a crucial Ohio Valley Conference showdown on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The Tigers and Governors are tied for the eighth and final spot in the OVC Tournament with six games to play.

ABOUT AUSTIN PEAY: The reigning Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Champion Governors are 8-16 overall and 4-6 in OVC play this season. Junior guard Josh Robinson leads the OVC with 21.3 points per game.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU fell to EIU by a 77-67 margin in overtime at the Gentry Center on Thursday night. Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a team-high 16 points and had a block on EIU’s final possession of regulation to force overtime. TSU held a 31-19 lead at the half, but the Panthers outscored the Tigers by a 58-36 margin in the second half and overtime.

ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS THE GOVERNORS:  The Tigers are 28-46 in the all-time series versus Austin Peay. TSU has gone 1-2 versus the Governors in the Dana Ford era.

LAST SEASON VERSUS AUSTIN PEAY: In the regular season meeting between the two sides on Jan. 14, TSU earned a 66-52 win over the Governors behind a double-double from Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 10 points and 10 rebounds. TSU shot 51.9 percent for the game and outrebounded APSU by a 39-31 margin. In the rematch in the OVC Quarterfinals, the eighth-seeded Govs pulled off a 74-72 upset of the fourth-seeded Tigers. TSU led by 19 in the early going of the second half, but APSU stormed all the way back to earn the win.

UP NEXT: TSU travels to Tennessee Tech for a road game on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
