OPENING TIP: TSU hosts EIU on Thursday night at the Gentry Center for a national TV game on CBS Sports Network. Thursday's game is Greek Night where fans wearing paraphernalia from their respective fraternity or sorority will get into the game for half price.
ABOUT EIU: Coming off a 75-60 win over SIUE on Jan. 28, Eastern Illinois enters Thursday night carrying a 10-12 overall record and a 2-7 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. Demetrius McReynolds (14.7 points per game) and Montell Goodwin (14.0 ppg) lead the Panthers on the offensive end.
LAST TIME OUT: TSU could not overcome the hot shooting of Belmont in a 93-76 home loss on Saturday. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) led TSU with 22 points to go with 18 points from Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and 14 from Armani Chaney (Chicago, Ill.) off the bench. Five players scored in double figures for Belmont, which shot 61.2 percent from the field on the night.
LAST SEASON VERSUS EIU: Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit six free throws in the final 30 seconds and finished with a team-high 24 points to lead TSU to a 66-61 road victory over Eastern Illinois in last year’s meeting. TSU dominated in the early going and had a 17-point lead in the first half before EIU cut the deficit to one at 62-61 with 11.5 seconds left.
ALL-TIME SERIES VERSUS THE PANTHERS: Tennessee State has won three of the last five matchups with Eastern Illinois and is 27-22 overall versus the Panthers. TSU’s 66-61 win at EIU last season snapped the Panthers’ two-game winning streak in the series.
