TENNESSEE STATE | BELMONT

OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team hosts cross-town opponent Belmont at the Gentry Center on Saturday night. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start after the women’s game, which starts at 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT BELMONT: The Bruins are 14-4 overall and 8-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Reigning OVC Player of the Year Evan Bradds leads Belmont with 21.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

LAST TIME OUT: Five Tigers scored in double figures in TSU’s 76-56 road win at SIUE on Wednesday night. Darreon Reddick (Belleville, Ill.), Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Delano Spencer (Atlanta, Ga.) scored 14 points apiece with Christian Mekowulu (Lagos, Nigeria) adding 12. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) facilitated the offense with 11 points and a career-high 12 assists. TSU held SIUE to 18 first-half points, marking the third time holding an opponent under 20 in a half this season.

LAST SEASON VERSUS BELMONT: Belmont and TSU split last year’s meetings with both teams winning at home in high-scoring affairs. TSU lost the first meeting, 103-95, at Belmont before an 87-72 win at the Gentry Center in the regular season finale. In the two games last season, Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3 steals.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU’s record in the all-time series versus Belmont stands at 11-15. Under third-year Head Coach Dana Ford, the Tigers are 1-3 versus the Bruins.

UP NEXT: TSU hosts Eastern Illinois on Feb. 2 for a 7 p.m. start. The game will air live on the CBS Sports Network.
