OPENING TIP: In the midst of a three-game homestand, the Tennessee State men's basketball team hosts Southeast Missouri in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup on Thursday night at the Gentry Center. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the women's game at 5:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: TSU fell by a 76-73 final score to Kennesaw State in the non-conference finale on Jan. 2 at the Gentry Center. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a season-high 25 points, and Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) secured a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
ABOUT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI: The Redhawks are 6-10 on the season and are coming off a convincing 81-48 win over Eastern Kentucky in the Ohio Valley Conference opener. Preseason All-OVC selection Antonius Cleveland leads SEMO’s offense with 17.6 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Tennessee State is 25-19 in the all-time series versus Southeast Missouri. Including last season’s 72-66 road win, the Tigers have won six of the last eight meetings between the two sides.
LAST SEASON VS. SEMO: In a back-and-forth game with 13 ties and 10 lead changes, TSU earned a 72-66 road win at Southeast Missouri last season. The Tigers were down by four with 3:43 to play before closing the game on a 15-4 run. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals on the night.
WAYNE MARTIN'S REBOUNDING CLINIC: Redshirt senior Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has posted three-consecutive double-doubles and is averaging 17.0 points and 14.3 rebounds per game in his last three outings. The 6-7 forward is averaging 10.7 rebounds per game on the season, which is top in the OVC. If he maintains his current rebounding pace, Martin will be the first TSU player to average 10+ rebounds for a season since Stanley Caldwell posted 10.4 rebounds per game in 1995-96.
