OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men's basketball team returns from the holiday break to host Covenant on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Gentry Center. Redshirt seniors Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) lead TSU's offense with 12.3 points per game apiece.
LAST TIME OUT: Playing in front of a national audience on ESPN2, TSU battled #5/4 Duke in a 65-55 loss at historic Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 19. The game featured seven ties and 13 lead changes as the Tigers were up for more than 12 minutes. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Darreon Reddick (Belleville, Ill.) both posted 14 points to pace the offense.
ABOUT COVENANT: The Scots won the USA South Tournament last season to advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Covenant is 4-5 on the season and is led by Berto Dryden’s 15.0 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Tuesday will mark the first-ever meeting between TSU and Covenant, which competes at the NCAA Division III level.
TSU AT THE GENTRY CENTER: TSU is 2-0 at home this season and 13-3 at the Gentry Center over the last two seasons. Last season, TSU tied the program record for wins at the Gentry Center with 11.
UP NEXT: TSU travels to Murray, Ky., to take on Murray State for the Ohio Valley Conference opener on Saturday, Dec. 31. The game will get underway at 11 a.m. and will air on CBS Sports Network.
