NASHVILLE --- Off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 1994-95 season, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team received national attention on Monday. TSU earned a 20th ranking in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll and received a vote in the Associated Press Top 25, it was announced on Monday.
It is the third time TSU has been ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25 and first this season. The 20th ranking is the highest for TSU in program history.
The Mid-Major Top 25, which is in its 18th season of existence, is voted on by a panel of 31 mid-major head coaches. The AP Top 25 began in January of 1949 and is voted on by 65 media members from across the country.
The Tigers received a Mid-Major No. 24 ranking on Jan. 18, 2016, and was in the Mid-Major Top 25 for one week. TSU was also ranked in 2012, checking in at No. 25 in the Mid-Major Poll.
After going 3-0 in the Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara, Calif. to open the season, the Tigers defeated Conference USA Champion Middle Tennessee, 74-63, on the road on Nov. 19.
TSU returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 23, with a road test at Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y.
