TSU UPDATE: Year three of the Dana Ford Era gets underway following a turnaround season in 2015-16. The Tigers went 20-11 a year ago after going 5-26 in Ford’s first season in 2014-15. This year’s team welcomes back three starters including Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference honorees Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The Tigers enjoyed balanced scoring in the exhibition victory with six players recording seven or more points led by a team-best nine from Armani Chaney (Chicago, Ill.).
CABLE CAR CLASSIC: Now in its 50th year, the Cable Car Classic started in 1967. A number of NBA stars have played in the Cable Car Classic over the years including Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Ralph Sampson, Bill Cartwright and Steve Nash.
ABOUT UC DAVIS: The Aggies are coming off an 11-19 season that included a 6-10 mark in Big West Conference play. Head Coach Jim Les loses just two letterwinners from last year’s team, while bringing back 10. Senior guards Brynton Lemar and Darius Graham both averaged more than 10 points per game a year ago.
ABOUT NORTHERN ARIZONA: After reaching the championship game of the CIT two seasons ago, the Lumberjacks went 5-25 in 2015-16. Ako Kaluna, who led Northern Arizona with 7.1 rebounds per game, is the team’s leading returning scorer at 12.9 points per game.
ABOUT SANTA CLARA: Former NC State and Arizona State Head Coach Herb Sendek enters his first season at Santa Clara. The Broncos went 11-20 last season with a 7-11 West Coast Conference mark. Santa Clara returns its eight top scorers including two-time All-WCC guard Jared Brownridge.
ROAD WARRIORS: Santa Clara is more than 2,000 miles from TSU’s campus in Nashville. It is the furthest distance TSU has traveled since playing Hawaii to open the 2013-14 season. TSU’s 2016-17 schedule features 17 games away from the Gentry Center including 15 true road games and two neutral site games.
