OPENING TIP: Currently in the thick of the Ohio Valley Conference playoff race, the Tigers look to tie the program’s Division I record by picking up their 20th victory of the season. The Thursday night game at UT Martin, which is currently tied for first atop the OVC West Division standings, is set for 6 p.m.

PLAYOFF RACE: TSU is currently tied for second in the OVC East Division with Tennessee Tech. Belmont is in first and has clinched at least a co-championship for the regular season. Seeding for the tournament is still up in the air with TSU still in the hunt to claim a co-championship for the regular season as well.

LAST TIME OUT: Marcus Roper (Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.) scored a team-high 15 points to lead TSU to a 61-46 home win over Jacksonville State on Feb. 20. Tennessee State put up one of its top defensive efforts of the season, holding Jacksonville State to 25.0 percent shooting while finishing with a 49-37 rebounding edge. On the offensive end, Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Christian Griggs-Williams (Milwaukee, Wisc.) scored 10 points apiece, while Demontez Loman (South Port, N.C.) led the Tigers on the glass with 11 boards.

ABOUT UT MARTIN: Carrying a 9-5 OVC record, UT Martin is currently tied atop the OVC West Division with Murray State. The Skyhawks have won seven in a row and have not lost since an 82-74 defeat at Eastern Illinois. Four UT Martin players are scoring in double figures including Preseason All-OVC selections Twymond Howard (15.1 ppg) and Alex Anderson (11.9 ppg). A year ago, UT Martin made it all the way to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Semifinals and finished the season with a 21-13 record.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UT MARTIN: TSU holds a 32-24 lead versus UT Martin in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1966-67 season. The Skyhawks have won two in a row in the series. In games played in Martin, Tenn. the series is knotted up at 13-13.

LAST SEASON VS. UT MARTIN: The Skyhawks earned a 69-52 win over TSU in last year’s meeting at the Gentry Center. TSU trailed by just two at 34-32 at halftime, but UT Martin pulled away by outscoring the Tigers by a 35-20 margin in the final 20 minutes. Then-senior Jay Harris scored a team-high 18 points for TSU with Darreon Reddick (Belleville, Ill.) adding 13. The Skyhawks held a 38-26 rebounding edge and shot 52.2 percent from the field.

UP NEXT: TSU hosts Belmont on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Gentry Center at 2:30 p.m. The game will serve as a Senior Day celebration, as well as the Breast Cancer Awareness game.
