OPENING TIP: With three games left in the regular season, the Tigers are set to host Jacksonville State at the Gentry Center on Saturday night as the second half of a basketball doubleheader.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU came up just short in a 66-61 road loss at Morehead State on Thursday night. Redshirt junior guard Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the TSU offense with 17 points. TSU trailed by 14 points with just over seven minutes to play before storming all the way back to take a 61-59 lead with 1:02 left. Morehead State scored the final seven points of the game including a three from Ronnye Beamon with 11.3 seconds left to break a 61-61 tie and give the Eagles the lead for good.

The Tigers forced Morehead State into 20 turnovers on the night and held a 29-28 halftime edge. In the second half, the Eagles shot 50 percent from the field and finished with a 42-24 rebounding edge.

ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE: The Gamecocks enter Saturday’s game looking to snap a five-game losing streak. Despite being shorthanded due to injuries, Jacksonville State has played close games with Belmont and Tennessee Tech in their last two outings. Jared Hamilton won his third OVC Freshman of the Week award, sharing it with TSU’s Armani Chaney this week.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. JACKSONVILLE STATE: TSU holds a 16-11 lead in the all-time series versus Jacksonville State. The Tigers have won six of the last eight meetings between the two sides. There have been 12 seasons where the teams have met twice in a season, and all but three resulted in a split. The only exceptions were in ‘04-05, ‘08-09 and ‘12-13 when TSU swept the season series.

LAST TIME VS. JACKSONVILLE STATE: Balanced scoring and a dominant rebounding performance lifted TSU to a 78-53 road victory over Jacksonville State on Jan. 30. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) led five TSU players scoring in double figures with 18 points to go with eight rebounds, while Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his ninth double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Tigers held a 42-27 rebounding edge over Jacksonville State and finished with a 44-10 advantage in points in the paint.

UP NEXT: The Tigers play their final road game of the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 25, at UT Martin at 6 p.m.
