BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) was recognized for his performances versus Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville by earning Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office.
The 6-5 guard led the Tigers (12-4, 3-0 OVC) with 21.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during the week to go with 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals. At Eastern Illinois on Jan. 6, the Philadelphia native scored 15 of his 24 points in the second half. Down the stretch, he hit six free throws in the closing 30 seconds to seal the victory.
McCall went on to tally 18 points, seven boards and three assists in a victory over SIUE on Jan. 9. Of McCall’s 18 points, 12 were scored in the second half. TSU’s point guard leads the squad with 19.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in OVC play.
It is the third time a TSU player has earned OVC Newcomer of the Week this season. Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the award on Nov. 16 and was also co-Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 21.
The Tigers are back in action on Thursday, Jan. 14, with a home test versus Austin Peay at 7:30 p.m. at the Gentry Center.
