OPENING TIP: Off to its best start through five games since the 1998-99 season at 3-2, the TSU men’s basketball team will go for its first 4-2 start since the 1994-95 campaign with a road test at Kennesaw State on Saturday, Nov. 28. The Tigers have secured wins over Loyola, Fisk and Reinhardt in the early going.

LAST TIME OUT: Balanced scoring and a strong first-half defensive effort propelled the Tennessee State men’s basketball team to a 77-61 home victory over Reinhardt at the Gentry Center on Tuesday night. Redshirt junior Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who entered the game tied for seventh in the nation with 12.8 rebounds per game, posted his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Redshirt senior Keron DeShields (Baltimore, Md.) led the Tigers with 14 points, while senior Demontez Loman (South Port, N.C.) collected a season-best seven boards. TSU (3-2) held the Eagles (5-4) to 33.9 percent (21-for-64) shooting and held a 51-37 rebounding edge. On the night, 11 different players scored for the Tigers, who limited Reinhardt to 8-for-28 (28.6 percent) shooting in the opening 20 minutes.

ABOUT KENNESAW STATE: Former Boston College Head Coach Al Skinner, who is in his first season at Kennesaw State, has led his Owls through a grueling opening stretch that included games against Alabama, LSU, Arizona State and Belmont. Off to a 1-5 start, the Owls are led by Yonel Brown’s 18.5 points per game, while Aubrey Williams has pulled down a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game. Kennesaw State earned its first victory of the season on Nov. 23 over IUPUI and was handed an 80-55 loss by Belmont last time out on Nov. 24.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series, picking up a 73-62 win over Kennesaw State last season and a 73-67 win in the 2009-10 season.

LAST SEASON VS. KENNESAW STATE: Facing the Owls for the second time in program history, Tennessee State earned a 73-62 victory over Kennesaw State on Dec. 31, 2014 at the Gentry Center. TSU led by as many as 16 points in the second half and were led by then-freshman Christian Mekowulu’s double- double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Darreon Reddick (Belleville, Ill.) also tallied 16 points in the victory. TSU held a 35-29 rebounding edge and shot 54.8 percent from the field.
