NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men’s basketball team will travel to Austin Peay State University for an Ohio Valley Conference game at the Dunn Center this Thursday night.
The Tigers (3-15, 0-3 OVC) are coming off three-straight losses, two of which they held the lead at halftime. In their most recent game at SIUE, the score was tied with as little as 1:03 remaining in the game. The Cougars then scored five quick points to create the victory.
The Governors (5-11, 0-2 OVC) are also looking for their first conference win after their first two conference losses came by a combined score of 143-115. This will be the first home OVC game for Austin Peay.
TSU dropped last year’s meeting with Austin Peay 75-65 at Gentry Center. Jay Harris had 11 points and eight rebounds while dropping a pair of dimes in the loss. The victory strengthened the Governors hold on the all-time series between the two schools to 43-25.
The Tigers have been improving at the charity stripe ever since the victory over Kennesaw State. In those four games, TSU shot 69.6 percent (55-for-79). In the games preceding the current stretch, the Tigers shot 54.5 percent (156-for-286).
Austin Peay has received terrific production from 6’ 8” forward, Chris Horton, this season. The Junior is averaging a double-double (11.8 points/10.1 rebounds per game) thus far into the year. He also recorded the 10th triple-double in OVC history with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks on Nov. 16 when the Governors beat Berea College.
For the year, Austin Peay is shooting 40 percent from the floor and 30 percent from beyond the arc.
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Clarksville. The game will be broadcast on the OVC Digital Network.
