Tigers to Finish Season at Bruins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men’s basketball team will wrap up its season at Belmont University on Saturday at the Curb Event Center.

The Tigers (5-25, 2-13 OVC) will not qualify for the OVC Tournament, effectively making Saturday’s game the conclusion of the 2014-15 season. The Bruins (18-10, 10-5 OVC), on the other hand, are playing for the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and a double-bye.

TSU is coming off a 69-52 loss to UT Martin on Thursday. The Senior Night loss is the seventh in a row suffered by the Tigers as the Skyhawks outscored them 35-20 in the closing half of play. UT Martin outlasted TSU thanks to a 38-26 rebounding advantage and shooting a 52 percent clip from the floor.

Jay Harris scored 18 points (6-for-16) in his final game at Gentry Center. The senior leader grabbed three boards, two steals, and dished out an assist in the loss.

Darreon Reddick and Xavier Richards also tried their hand and bringing the Tigers back into the game. Reddick scored 13 points (3-for-7) and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe while Richards scored nine points, pulled down eight rebounds (team high), and recorded three assists in 37 minutes.

Three Tigers registered 37 minutes, or more, in Thursday’s game.

Belmont, meanwhile, is fresh off a win at Tennessee Tech. The Bruins defeated the Golden Eagles 88-82 thanks to 65 percent shooting (32-for-49) from the floor. Belmont ended the game on a 16-2 run for the win.

Recently named a COSIDA Academic All-American, Craig Bradshaw scored 17 points (5-of-10) to lead the Bruins to the victory.

Bradshaw has been an important part of Belmont’s three-game win streak. He has averaged 16 points per contest during the stretch while dishing out 12 total assists.

Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Curb. The game will also be televised on CBS Sports Network.
