NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men’s basketball team will travel to face Jacksonville State University on Saturday evening at Pete Matthews Coliseum.
The Tigers (5-22, 2-10 OVC) were victorious the last time they played against the Gamecocks (11-17, 4-9 OVC). TSU beat JSU 45-43 in comeback style at Gentry Center on Jan. 31.
TSU endured a 13-plus minute stretch without making a field goal during the game. Whenever the spell was finally broken, they found themselves down by only eight points.
Despite making a total of 12 field goals in the game, the Tigers came away with their second conference victory of the season.
This time around, TSU is in the midst of a four-game skid. Their last loss came at home to Eastern Kentucky 69-41. Christian Mekowulu scored 16 points (5-for-6) while Jay Harris (10 points) recorded his 17th double-digit scoring performance of the season.
TSU never led and managed to tie the game just one time, at 2-2.
Jacksonville State, on the other hand, has won back-to-back games over Belmont and Tennessee Tech. Their most recent win, an 82-68 victory over the Golden Eagles, came at home last Saturday. Darion Rackley scored 24 points to lead the Gamecocks to a win.
Moreso than a four-game losing streak, TSU will look to get an even bigger monkey off their back as they have yet to win a road game this season (0-15).
Game time is slated for 4:30 in Jacksonville, Ala. This will be the first of four games in a week to end the season for the Tigers. The game against Morehead State, originally scheduled for this past Thursday, was postponed to Monday in the wake of the winter weather that hit Nashville.
