MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Tennessee State University men’s basketball team fell to Morehead State University, 72-57, at Johnson Arena on Thursday night.
The Tigers (5-19, 2-7 OVC) never led in a game that the Eagles (11-14, 6-4 OVC) never saw a lead smaller than seven.
Karam Mashour led all scorers with 21 points in a winning cause for Morehead State.
The Eagles controlled the scoreboard from the opening tip as they went into the locker room with a 34-24 lead. The Tigers were shut down from behind the arc, going 0-for-5 for the first 20 minutes.
TSU had a tough shooting half, overall, posting 25 percent from the floor (8-for-32). TheTigers did limit their turnovers, though, only giving the ball up four times in the half.
Despite falling behind as many as 16, TSU made it a game, cutting the gap to as little as three possessions with 2:34 left. After a goaltending call on Mekowulu, though, Morehead State rallied and ended the game on a 10-0 run.
The Tigers fought hard in the final 20 minutes, shooting 50 percent (11-for-22) from the floor. Roper tried to spur TSU to a comeback, making three treys in the half, along with a layup, but it wasn’t enough.
The Tigers will continue the current three-game road swing with a trip to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time (6:00 p.m. Central) at Alumni Coliseum.
