Tigers Set to Host MTSU on Tuesday Night

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three days after recording its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team will play its final non-conference game of the year when the squad hosts Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The Tigers moved to 1-2 in league play and 2-14 oevrall after a 70-65 home win over Jacksonville State on Saturday.

In that game, senior guard Patrick Miller led the Tigers with 19 points and added five rebounds, four assist and four steals.

Miller remains first in the conference, averaging 21 points per game and has recorded at least 10 points in 28 straight contests.

Fellow senior Jacquan Nobles was second on the team in scoring on Saturday, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a 3-for-6 mark from deep.

Nobles played a pivotal role in TSU nailing just one shy of its season-high in threes for the game (eight).

Forward M.J. Rhett recorded a game-high 13 rebounds against the Gamecocks, helping Tennessee State to a 35-28 advantage on the boards.

It was only the fifth time that the Tigers had out-rebounded an opponent on the season, and good work on the glass will be especially important against Middle Tennessee State (9-5) as the Blue Raiders rank 21st nationally with a plus-eight rebounding margin per game.

MTSU will have had a full week off to prepare for the Tigers prior to Tuesday’s contest, but the Blue Raiders defeated Grand Canyon in their last competition, 79-56.

Shawn Jones led MTSU with 18 points and nine rebounds against the Antelopes and is the team-leader in both categories on the year, averaging 13.9 and 8.6, respectively.

The Tigers are 16-40 all-time against MSTU and haven’t won against their in-state foes since 1998. However, TSU is 35-10 at home in its last 45 contests.

Tip-off for TSU versus MTSU is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday and fans can watch the game locally on MyTV 30.
