Patrick Miller Named adidas OVC Player of the Week

Brentwood, Tenn. - Tennessee State junior guard Patrick Miller was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.

Miller was near perfect in Tennessee State's 67-59 OVC-opening victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The Chicago native hit his first four shots from the field and missed only one attempt on the night en route to a career-high 28 points.

The 28 points was the most by a TSU player not named Robert Covington since January 2009.

Miller hit 7-of-8 (87.5%) field goal attempts, was a perfect 3-of-3 from 3-point range and connected on all 11 of his charity stripe attempts (including 6-of-6 in the final 36 seconds) in the win. He also added four rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in 35 minutes of action.

Miller currently leads the OVC in assists (5.6 per game) and steals (2.1 per game).

Miller's nomination is third of its kind so far this season for TSU. Covington previously won the award on Dec.3 and again on Dec. 17.

Tennessee State will try to improve to 2-0 in the OVC on Thursday night at Tennessee Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on the OVC Digital Network.
