M.J. Rhett Named adidas? OVC Player of the Week

Brentwood, Tenn. - On Monday, the Ohio Valley Conference named Tennessee State forward M.J. Rhett the conference's adidas® Player of the Week.

Rhett won the award after a career week that saw him shatter his previous highs in points, rebounds and blocks.

Against Tennessee Tech, Rhett was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field en route to tallying a career-high 15 points. He also recorded his first double-double in the 72-66 win with a team-high 11 rebounds and a career-high four blocks. Rhett also notched seven-straight points for the Tigers during a five-minute span.

Versus Jacksonville State, the Columbia, S.C. native recorded his second consecutive double-double with 10 points and a new career-high 16 boards. His inside presence allowed the Tigers to beat the Gamecocks on the boards, 47-28.

Rhett's nomination marks the first time in school history that TSU has had four Player of the Week winners during the same season. Robert Covington won the award on Dec. 3 and Dec. 17 while Patrick Miller was chosen just last week (Dec. 31).

The selection of Rhett is also the first time that TSU has had three different student-athletes take home the honor since Wayne Arnold (Dec. 19), Clarence Mathews (Jan. 23) and Kareem Grant (Jan. 30) were named during the course of the 2005-2006 season.

Tennessee State will look to keep its four-game win streak alive when the team hosts UT Martin on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the OVC Digital Network.
