Thornton Earns Second Newcomer of the Week Honor
For the second time this season, Tennessee State's Kellen Thornton was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Thornton, a native of Chicago, averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in the Tigers' victories over rival Austin Peay and OVC-foe Southeast Missouri. From the field, the junior transfer from Illinois State shot 50 percent (10-of-20) for the week.

Against the Govs, Thornton led the Tigers with 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. On Saturday, Thornton scored another 15 points and managed six rebounds in TSU's 75-72 road victory versus the Redhawks.

Thornton has notched five consecutive double-figure games. He is averaging 9.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 24 games played this season.

The honor is the second for Thornton this season, who was named Co-Newcomer of the Week for Jan. 23. Robert Covington earned Player of the Week accolades on Nov. 21, while Jordan Cyphers garnered Co-Newcomer of the Week accolades for Dec. 26.

Tennessee State (15-10, 8-4 OVC) is tied for second place in the conference with Tennessee Tech. The  Big Blue visits No. 7 Murray State on Thursday, Feb. 9. The game tips at 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN3.
