TSU's Covington Named CollegeInsider OVC Co-MVP

Tennessee State's Robert Covington grabbed another honor on Tuesday as he was named the CollegeInsider Ohio Valley Conference Co-Most Valuable Player.

Covington, a junior from Bellwood, Ill., averaged 17.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 32 games for the Tigers this season. He garnered first team OVC All-Conference honors.

The forward ranks 18th all-time with 1,340 career points. He is just eight shy of tying Carlos Rogers' mark of 1,348 points.

Covington is just one of nine players to record 30 or more to have 30 or more 3-pointers (59), offensive rebounds (93), assists (40), blocks (40) and steals (49) this season.

He shares the award with Tennessee Tech's Kevin Murphy. Covington was also named to the OVC All-Tournament team after averaging 14.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in two games.

The Tigers will find out their postseason fate later this week. TSU could receive invitations from the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), College Basketball Invitational (CBI) or the College Insider Tournament (CIT).
