Tigers on win streak to face Eastern Kentucky at home

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University Tigers will host Eastern Kentucky in the second half of a double header in OVC play. Tip-off is scheduled after the Lady Tigers on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 7:30 p.m.

TSU (5-6, 2-1) will look to extend their four-game charge, tying the longest win streak under head coach John Cooper.

The Tigers are coming off a, 70-64, overtime win over the number one team in the OVC standings; upsetting Morehead State at the Gentry Center on Sunday. Three players scored in double figures with Kenny Moore posting a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. RECAP... 

In the all-time series, TSU trails EKU, 25-22, losing the last three meetings against the Colonels. In the last match-up, TSU dropped a 75-58 decision on Jan. 30, 2010.

TSU shot 46 percent from the floor, including a season-high, 57 percent from behind the arc. Jacquan Nobles led all scorers with 20 points from 8-of-15 shooting with 4-of-6 coming from long range. Robert Covington chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds with Tashan Fre­drick notching a career-high 11 points and eight boards. RECAP...

TSU picked up their last win against EKU, 69-63, at the Gentry Center during the 2008-09 season at the same time recording back-to-back victories. RECAP...

Currently, the Tigers are powered by Moore, Covington, Wil Peters and Patrick Miller. Moore was named OVC Newcomer of the Week after notching his second straight double-double. He leads the Tigers in points (15.1 ppg) and rebounds (8.3 rpg).

 

Covington follows after leading TSU in both categories in earlier weeks. He currently posts 13.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg to rank second on the squad in both categories.

Peters, the only member of the team that defeated EKU a season ago, follows with 11.7 ppg and a team high, 3.8 apg. He tied a career high, dishing out a game-high eight assists versus Morehead State. Miller enters averaging the most minutes on the floor with 34.1. He is scoring 11.4 ppg and averaging 3.0 apg.

The Colonels (5-6, 1-2 OVC) have not won on the road on an opponents' home court this season, posting a 0-3 record. They are coming off a, 78-51, OVC loss at Austin Peay State on Saturday. Scott Perrin paced the Colonels with 11 points.

Perrin leads the team with 12.1 ppg along with Josh Daniels' 10.7 ppg. The Colonels were picked fifth in the OVC preseason poll with Justin Stommes receiving an OVC preseason selection. Stommes carries a 9.8 ppg average but scored six points against APSU. Willie Cruz is the team's best rebounder with 4.6 rpg.  The scoring trio help lead EKU in the conference in field-goal percentage (.462), and assists (15.5 apg).

Up next, the Tigers will close out December with a non conference game on the road against Middle Tennessee State on Dec. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Murphy Center.
