Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University forward Darius Cox was named to the 2009-10 All-OVC Preseason Basketball Team.
The preseason honor is Cox's first All-OVC selection after registering six double-double performances in 21 starts of 30 games played last year.
A native of Monroe, N.C., Cox averaged 10.7 points and seven rebounds per game at the end of the 2008-09 season. The junior returns as the Tigers' leading scorer finishing third on the team last year in points per game.
"Having watched him in practice, he is very talented. I am impressed with the way he is receptive to coaching, change, and what we are asking him to do. He is pushing himself harder each day and I am pleased," said TSU Head Coach John Cooper. "From a talent perspective, he has a lot of it. He has qualities you can't quite teach. Hopefully, I can harness those abilities and he can give us some leadership guidance throughout the season."
Cox scored in double digits in 17 games, shooting 52 percent from the floor and 30 percent from three-point range. On defense, he led TSU in blocks with 35 on the season averaging 1.2 per contest.
The team was decided by votes from the OVC coaches and sports information directors. Cox joins OVC preseason team selections, Preseason Player of the Year Kenneth Faried (Morehead State), Ivan Aska (Murray State), Wesley Channels (Austin Peay), Tyler Laser (Eastern Illinois), Romain Martin (Eastern Illinois), Issac Miles (Murray State), Maze Stallworth (Morehead State), Justin Stommes (Eastern Kentucky), and Danero Thomas (Murray State).
