The Tennessee State University men's basketball team dropped a, 84-51, loss to Murray State in the first round of the OVC Basketball Tournament at the Regional Special Events Center (Murray, Ky.) on Tuesday night (3/2).
For the second straight season the Tigers were eliminated in the first round of the tournament by Murray State.
In the first half, the Tigers were down 10-2 before falling into a rhythm on their way to a 14-6 run. Nobles tied the ball game up at 16 connecting a three-point shot in the left corner. The Racers responded with a 13-0 run outscoring the Tigers 20-8 before taking a 36-24 lead at halftime.
TSU closed the lead to single digits, 30-39 (18:41) in the second half. The Racers extended the lead on a 19-3 run and led by as much as 39 points while shooting 66 percent to help seal the win.
Five Racers scored in double figures with the team shooting 57 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three-point range and hitting a perfect 11-of-11 from the line in the game.
Ivan Aska scored a game high 17 points from 6-of-10 shooting. Isaiah Canaan followed with 13 points connecting 5-of-8 overall and 3-of-5 from long range.
Tony Easley scored 12 points and led defensively with a game-high seven rebounds and six blocks. Danero Thomas added 11 points (4-of-8) with 3-of-4 from behind the arc and B.J. Jenkins posted 10 points hitting 4-of-8 overall.
The Racers outscored TSU in the paint, 38-16, scoring 25 fast break points and 27 points from turnovers.
