Tigers Head to Alabama to Face Jacksonville State

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men's basketball team will head to Jacksonville, Ala. to face the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State in conference play at the Pete Mathews Coliseum. The match-up is scheduled for Monday, February 9th with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

In their first match-up of the season, the Tigers won on a buzzer-beater by Jerrell Houston to defeat JSU, 59-57, in the Gentry Center back on January 22nd. Gershom Jordan tallied career-highs, leading all scorers with 21 points (10-of-11) and eight rebounds. TSU holds a slight edge in the series, 6-5.

The Tigers (6-17, 4-9 OVC) will look to break a five-game losing streak and are coming off an OVC loss to UT Martin, 100-73, Saturday night at the Gentry Center. TSU is currently 1-11 on the road winning there last away game against Southeast Missouri on December 12, 2008.

Gerald Robinson, Jr. (16.7 ppg) and Jerrell Houston (13.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg) lead the Big Blue in scoring.

Jacksonville State (11-11, 5-8 OVC) has won two straight including three of their last four games. The Gamecocks come off a 75-70 home win versus Eastern Kentucky (2/07/09) and have posted a 6-3 record at the Pete Mathews Coliseum this season. They are led in scoring by Jeremy Bynum (12.6 ppg), Jonathan Toles (11.5 ppg), and Brandon Crawford (10.6 ppg).

Next, the Tigers will finish out their road games of the season at Austin Peay (2/14/09) and Tennessee Tech 2/19/09).
