Nashville, Tenn. The Tennessee State University Men’s Basketball Team will open their 2008-09 season in exhibition play against Trevecca-Nazerene University on November 5th at the Gentry Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers finished last year posting a 15-17 record overall while going 10-10 in conference play. The Tigers won five of their last six games before losing in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament Championship game to Austin Peay.
The squad returns five members including three starters; however, several key acquisitions were made in the off-season.
Coach Cy Alexander will look for sophomore, Gerald Robinson, Jr. and senior, Jerrell Houston to lead the charge early in the season. Robinson, Jr. and Houston were named to the OVC All-Preseason Team.
Robinson was the Tigers second leading scorer last season averaging 15.2 points per game. He comes off of a remarkable freshman year where he was selected to the OVC All-Newcomer Team and was named freshman of the week six times.
The Tigers lead the series against the Trojans, 6-0. The two teams met last during the 2004-05 season with TSU defeating TNU in overtime, 102-97.
