Tigers Scrap Out 85-75 Exhibition Win Over Carson-Newman

The Tennessee State University Tigers got double-figure scoring from four players to grab an 85-75 exhibition win over Carson-Newman at the Gentry Center in Nashville.

Junior guard Bruce Price led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 6 of 9 from the floor including 4-of-7 from beyond the 3-pt arc. Fellow junior Jerrell Houston canned sixteen points, freshmen Gerald Robinson scored 11 points and Darius Cox scored 10 to finish as the top scorers for TSU. Cox and guard Ervin Reiley handed out four assists each and four players had one block.

TSU out-rebounded CNU 41-32, but the Eagles were not without their moments. Early in the first half (15:12) CNU took a brief two-point lead (8-6), but the Tigers answered with an 11-2 run over the next 4:00 to take a17-10 lead. TSU held a seven-point (37-30) lead at the half.

In the second half, CNU kept things close during the early part of the half, but the Tigers hit 6-of-12 from 3 pt range to open up as much as a 17-point lead late in the game (4:40) and cruised to their final 10-point margin of victory.

The Tigers open their regular-season on Friday (11/9) when they host Cumberland University at the Gentry Center at 7:30p. On Sunday, 11/11, the TSU Tigers will host the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech at 6:00p at Gentry Center.
