Pittman Named to NABC Committee

Tennessee State University assistant men’s basketball coach Mark Pittman has been appointed to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Committee on Academics. Pittman, a graduate of the University of Illinois, has served as an assistant on the staff of TSU Tigers’ head coach Cy Alexander seven years.

The appointment was made at the NABC Convention in San Antonio. The Committee on Academics is made up of coaches from all three NCAA Divisions, and one Junior College head coach. Mark is one of only three assistant coaches in the sixteen man membership.

The mission of the committee is to promote programming, publicize the academic success of college basketball players, and encourage coaches to interact with school children in their communities. The Committee on Academics also administers the Literacy Champion Award, which each year recognizes outstanding work by a coach and his program in the promotion of reading and literacy. This year's Literacy Champion is Bob Knight, but past winners have come from all three divisions, including one assistant coach.
